So who knows about this place Hyder, Alaska? Hyder is a place that visitors traveling the Cassiar are discovering, however most Alaskans even know exist. Hyder is relatively isolated from much of the mainstream tourism and as it is tucked up in Portland Canal, few Alaskans ever remember it when they cite the towns and villages of Southeast. Although Hyder is an Alaskan town, it is on the Canadian telephone exchange, uses primarily Canadian funds and relies for many of its needs from its Canadian neighbour Stewart, B.C. The needs of both towns are so intertwined that one town could not exist without the other. "Unique" is a word that usually is used to describe this corner of the Southeast Alaska & British Columbia that has so much to offer and be discovered.
